May 13, 2009
Sad news today that photo historian, publisher, author and photographer BILL JAY passed away in his sleep on Sunday in his recently adopted hometown of Samara on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. I received the news from colleagues at Arizona State University and have yet to learn more from Bill’s family. Follow link for more:

Braddock Pennsylvania (this is the towns homepage) is the steel town that has been slowly dying since the 70's.
The coal fire underneath the town that I mentioned is Centralia PA. There are many websites that cover this town, here are a few:

http://www.thetownthatwas.com/ A documentary about Centralia.
Times Beach was a town that poisoned itself with Dioxin trying to reduce the dust on their dirt roads. The town had to be abandoned, and after years of cleanup by the EPA and hundreds of millions of dollars its now a state park.
